Today is a very special day. Our firstborn son, Jeremiah Cobb Temple, is celebrating his first birthday! It is such an exciting and emotional thing for me as his mama because I have really re-lived how it all "went down" (haha, get it?) last year the past few days in looking out for the arrival of our second son, Keegan Bradley Temple. A year ago last night I started having contractions around 9:30 and they came and went til after midnight. I fell asleep on the couch while my mother slept in the floor (she came to stay with me because Brad had to work the next day). We woke up right before 4am and she moved to the couch and I went to lay in bed. Almost as soon as I laid down, I heard and felt my water break. I was so excited until the contractions started back and boy, did they come back! We got to the hospital around 4:45am and he was born at 7:50am on Thursday, June 6, 2013. It was and always will be one of the best days of my life.
Jeremiah is such a blessing to our family. Although he is
starting to try to assert his will, he has been pretty cooperative when I
exercise my mommy dominance. One
area we are somewhat struggling in is eating. He doesn’t like to be constrained in his high chair but if I
don’t buckle him in, he just tries to stand up and crawl out so he has no other
option. He also hates rice cereal
now. If we’re eating something he
can’t eat yet, he pitches a fit when I offer him rice cereal. It’s great because he will eat anything
and everything we eat but also difficult when we eat things like steak that are
too tough for him to chew. We
always try to have at least something he can eat and cut up a banana or
strawberries for him to munch on. It's currently a touch-and-go process but we will push through!
Our boy is also standing now. He crawls with the speed of light and when he reaches his
destination, he stands up and holds onto whatever he can get his hands on. It’s the cutest thing. He has taken a few steps in one
direction or the other while holding onto something but hasn’t taken any free
steps yet. I have a feeling it
won’t be long til he is walking around my living room and I’ll be staring in
disbelief. It’s amazing how
quickly he grows and learns new things.
He is such a little sponge.
He can say “bird”, “ball”, “mama”, “dada”, “yeah”, and “what”. We think he says “what” because
whenever he’s jabbering on about something we always ask “what?” so he repeats
that back to us. He is such a
turkey. After we say the blessing, we say "amen" and he always says "YEAH". I guess it's a boy thing. I love it.
His little personality is really starting to show. He claps when he does something that
makes us laugh and he “cheeses” when we smile at him. He has entered the snuggly stage (with some mommy-attachment thrown in there) and it makes my heart so happy to sit on the couch and snuggle with my boy. I am cherishing these days because I know my time alone with just him could be gone at any minute. I am sure he will be a good big brother to Keegan.
We had a family birthday party for him tonight. It was such a great time! Here are a few pictures for your enjoyment:
He did not want to participate in the "smash your cake" I had planned. His daddy says it's because he has good manners. :)
Thank you to our family who came and we missed the ones who weren't able to make it. Jeremiah is one blessed little boy and we are blessed to have him in our lives. We can't wait to see what God has in store for his life. Happy first birthday, Jeremiah. We love you so very much.
With love,
Hannah Elise
